Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2010

I only manage to join the half marathon this year. Well, I blame it to the lack of training. Lately I am not as what I'm use to be, running here and then, and since I work in Cyberjaya, shift some more, it is hard for me to train consistently. ( Ouh Rashid, stop whining and act already!!).

I must said, I didn't train enough, I only manage to do a 19km once, I survive the race thanks to my muscle memory (due to last time, running like nobody business). Well, including stop at water station, chat here and there, stopping at 7E, my time for the race was 2hours 42 mins.

Met many friends along the way. Ishal and some guys, biking around giving support to the marathoners. TSB, Kak Haza, Dicky and Shukran Terk doing the full marathon, some of them didn't even train (CRAZY!!). Met fellow Pushmore , Juan (He said Jules also running). Surprisingly, some of my colleagues from HP also running, Sanders, Raj, Len.

I am just glad that I finish, no, survive the run despite of lack in training (mileage). At first, I don't want to come for this run, I nearly blame the rain. It rained heavily that morning. Seriously I didn't expect it to rain that morning, and some more there's a lot of road being closed due to the event, I have to go the long way around to reach Lake Garden. And so I was drenched. I run with my shoe wet.

No complain regarding this race, and I didn't heard anything from the marathon runners. Drinks at water stations are enough for everybody. The best thing is that one of my colleague from the old office is a volunteer at one of the water station.  The only bad news is that one runner died (in 10km category).

The only problem for me was on the day before, the race kit collection day. They claimed that my registration was not complete, and they ask me to check at the Information counter. The guys at the information counter said that I didn't paid (somehow I forgot to bring my payment slip). Then I went to another counter (which I don't know what's the name of the counter), the guys at that counter check for me in another system, and found my name. After that things went on smoothly, he ask me to wait, and he go and take for me my kit. Some bumps, but it is all smooth.

Well, I am looking forward for another 21km in the near future. Seremban Half anybody?

Thanks to Zackery

Thank You Zackery!!

Kettle Bells

Kettlebells

What is a Kettlebell?

Kettlebell is a something like an ironball with handle, or a canon ball with handle. It is an exercise device/tools used by the Russians, since maybe around 1704. The Russians called it Girya. It can be use for muscle strenghtening, increase muscle and build endurance.

The history of Kettlebell.

Kettlebells orginated in Russia, many believes that it existed since 1704. In Russia, it is called “girya”, and the men who lifted it were called “gireviks”. Kettlebell workouts are intended to increase strength, endurance, agility and balance, challenging both the muscular and cardiovascular system with dynamic, total-body movements.

Since ancient times in Russia, Russian people have valued physical strength. Historically, it was an honor to be known as The Strongest Man.

The strength contests constantly were held in all villages and towns. The Strongest Men were referred to as Bogatir which means extremely strong and honorable man. Bogatirs also were honored for their goodness. They used their super strength for good and against evil.

Even in the Russian military, they are using this kind of method for their training. It’s their natural fitness tool, it is so much used in the military, they don’t perform push ups for their fitness test. Instead, they used kettlebell snatchtes. (Right now, even the US Secret Services uses Kettlebell Snatches for their fitness test).

Pavel Tsatsouline

The man who responsible in making kettlebells popular in the United States is Pavel Tsatsouline. He used to be a trainer for the United States and the Soviet Union armed force where he incoporated kettlebells training into the regime. He is a champion for Kettlebell lifter back in Russia, and now he is a personal trainer, and a book writer for training regime.

The US started to used this method in their training since they discovered that their Russian counterpart is stronger because of this method of training.

The Christian Science Monitor reports: When Russian and US Special Forces started competing against each other after the Soviet Union broke up, the Americans made a disturbing discovery. "We'd be totally exhausted and the Russians wouldn't even be catching their breath." says...[a] Secret Service agent..."it turned out they were all working with kettlebells."

The United States Secret Service has now instituted a 10-minute kettlebell snatch test. ((10-minute max. rep snatches with 24 kg KB (53 lb) =250 reps)).

These are some links related to more kettlebell history and the Pavel Tsatsouline himself.

Home and Living – Bed Frame

Home and Living sells something rarely found on any place, bed frames. Yup, they sell this frames so that you could custom made a bed. Any sizes you want, twin size, queen size or king size. You also can just buy the rails. Just like I said earlier, it's like you can custom made the bed. Buy the frames and then the mattress separately. But my favorite is the rollaway bed type, it's hard to find that kind of bed here in Malaysia, and so far I never see anybody using it.

It will be something different if I manage to buy one. That is if I live in US, free shipping, free sales tax, what else could I ask more?

Home and Living

Friday was good; the workload wasn’t that high, as per any days within this week, Thank God. I have been working in Europe shift, and let me tell you, the tickets from that region are darn high. This week alone I went to the gym just once, I didn’t even run this week, and the best thing is that KL Marathon is few days away (and I never did train for a half marathon yet!).

So while at office, I went on browsing around, and I find this page, Home And Living home furniture .  It’s an online shop to buy furniture or any home based stuff. As I was looking around, I stumble into this.  (Polaris Ranger RZR). It’s a small 4X4 SUV for 5 – 1o years old. Yeah I know it’s a toy, but it’s just something that I would like to have.

Polaris Ranger RZR

Run’s by 24v battery, and the best thing is that it has a FM radio and MP3 player input.  And this little toy here can go up to 7mph (roughly 14kmh). Later you can check in the website that delivery is free, and there’s no sales tax on it. I’m tempted to click buy, but then I realized that it is for US only, they don’t do international shipping. Sigh.

The Prince of Persia – The Evolution

The Prince of Persia movie has been showing in Malaysia since Thursday (27th May 2010). Seeing the poster makes me smile remembering the first Prince of Persia games that I have played. I am never good at that game. From the 1989 version of it to the new 3D games that have been made by Ubisoft.

The series have been evolved tremendously from simple DOS video games up until now the latest installment of the game that have been release recently this month, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands.

Bella Skin Care – Men Skin Center

I sent an SMS to Men Skin Centre recently, it is supposed to be something like a lucky draw with the winner will get a 1 session at the Center. Men Skin Center is actually a slimming center for men. Focus to firm up the midsection and slimming up the tummy area.

I got the advertisement regarding the lucky draw from Men’s Health, which I recently bought at MPH. Few days later on the same week, a girl from the center called me saying that I won the lucky draw, thus I get the free one session trial (yeah right!). They wanted to set an appointment with me for the trial; I set it on Sunday at 11am.

Sunday (23-5-2010)

I reached the center around 11.15am, I was late, but I already informed them about my lateness. I was attended by one of the consultant who asks me what’s my target, what’s my activity, what I eat and what I drink. Normal thing that they usually ask before they assign a program to the customer.

Well the target is, for this program, they will only do one thing and that is the Cold Wrapping Program. A method to firm up your skin.

I was sent to a room, which I was asked to take of my shirt, then the wrapping began. It was COLD; they use this bandage, which they soaked in some special herb (or so they say). A person need to be wrapped tight with that bandage, the motive again is to firm up your skin. Not only the bandage is cold, the room is twice as cold!

Bink in Wrap

Mum-Ra ?

Sit in the cold room

I was left in the room for 1 hour. I manage to sleep off (Luckily), if not that will be my longest and coldest 1-hour. I was unwrapped after an hour before was sent to the consultant room. I assume that she wanted to promote the program, which I have already think of few excuses how to deflect the offers.

But then I was a bit disappointed on their consultant; she showed me this list of programs. There’s this 3 different package.
1. 18 sessions, for the cost of RM1899.
2. ?? Sessions (I forgot) for the cost of RM2899.
3. 42 sessions, for the cost of RM3899.

All these packages come with different treatment, to different target of people. I asked her regarding the treatment that they provided, the name and the purpose for the treatment, but she failed to answer it. She called up another consultant, and then left me alone for 15 minute. While waiting for the next consultant I read this one folder showing their treatment, before and after picture.

Honestly I must say, what they are doing is actually to burn fat externally. Cold wrapping you with herbs, so that it penetrate through the skin and increase metabolic rate, there’s this hot wrap, which uses different kind of herb and also increase your metabolic rate and fat burning. There’s this abs machine which shoot small jolt of electric to your (abs) muscle so that it simulates something like sit-ups/crunches effect. These kind of programs are for people who are lazy, don’t have time to workout and have loads of money to spend. And the before and after picture is not that convincing at all!

I am a sole believer in working out, and take care of your food intake, what you eat, and along the way you will shed the fat and or increase your muscle mass. I don’t believe in slimming center. Whether is it working or not, honestly, I don’t know. In the ads it will usually exploit a male model with 6 packs.

So yeah, WORKOUT AND EAT RIGHT is the most effective way and NEVER GIVE UP!
